(Alliance News) - Ariana Resources PLC on Monday said commissioning is under way at the Tavsan gold mine in Turkey, marking the final steps before production begins later this month.
The London-based mineral exploration and development firm, which holds a 24% interest in the project, said hot-commissioning of the processing plant has begun, while all heap-leach pads have been completed. Ore loading is expected to start following final government inspections.
The crushing and screening plants have completed hot-commissioning, and the agglomerator has undergone cold-commissioning. Around a year's worth of ore has already been stockpiled on site, Ariana said, with material now being processed for loading.
The Tavsan site is Ariana's second gold mining operation in Turkey, alongside the Kiziltepe mine.
Ariana also confirmed that overland conveyors have been installed and are about to be tested, while testing of the adsorption-desorption-recovery system is underway. A second water well is currently being drilled to secure a sufficient operational supply.
Separately, resource and exploration drilling is continuing, with over 6,000 metres already completed as part of a programme targeting up to 15,000 metres. The work aims to assess potential extensions to the mine's life.
"We are very much looking forward to achieving the first gold pour from the Tavsan mine," said Managing Director Kerim Sener. "The amount of work completed in recent months and the level of professionalism of the Zenit team and its contractors are nothing short of extraordinary."
Shares in Ariana Resources were up 9.7% at 1.62 pence each in London on Monday afternoon.
