APR Energy Commissions Bridging Plant At Port Hedland In Australia

12th Feb 2015 09:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - APR energy PLC Thursday said it has commissioned its mobile gas turbine power plant at Port Hedland in Western Australia.

The plant features four state-of-the-art GE TM2500+ aero derivative turbines running on clean-burning natural gas and provides power to state-owned utility Horizon Power, which serves more than 100,000 residents and more than 10,000 businesses and large industrial customers.

The plant will be used as a bridging solution until the second quarter of 2017, when TransAlta Energy (Australia) will have developed a permanent power plant, said APR.

"We are very pleased to have commissioned our plant, quickly and on schedule, in time to help Horizon Power meet the extra demand for power during the hot summer months," said Managing Director Clive Turton.

APR said the facility can be "rapidly expanded" by adding two more turbines as and when the capacity requirements grow.

"Our mobile turbine power plants have proved to be an ideal fit for utilities looking for bridging solutions while permanent plants are being built, and are the technology of choice for customers needing large-scale, rapidly-deployed solutions that provide greater grid stability, low capital costs and low emissions," said Turton.

APR shares were up 3.6% to 257.00 pence per share on Thursday morning.
