AO World Website Revenue Up 38%, Helped By 'Black Friday'

12th Jan 2015 07:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - Online domestic appliances retailer AO World PLC Monday said website revenue rose 38% in its fiscal third quarter which includes the key Christmas trading period, with sales spiking around Black Friday but remaining strong in the run-in to the festive season.

It added that it remains confident that it will meet full-year expectations.

In a statement, the retailer said website revenue was up 38% on the year in the three months to end-December, while total revenue, which includes third-party retail and logistics, rose 26%. The figures exclude Germany, where AO World launched operations on October 1.

"Operationally we managed very well over the peak trading period, maintaining our industry-leading website response times, service levels and logistics performance, in spite of large spikes in volume, particularly on "Black Friday"," the company said.

"Sales of audio visual categories, launched in May 2014, built well during the period and we were particularly pleased with performance in the run up to Christmas," it added.

AO World said its German operations are ahead of plan and sales are building well, giving it the confidence to "explore wider marketing opportunities to drive growth".

"I am delighted at the progress we are making in Germany where we launched six months ahead of schedule. We are already receiving great customer feedback, showing that our compelling offer translates well and giving us increased confidence in our ability to replicate our model in other overseas markets," Chief Executive John Roberts said.
