AO World Moves Into TV Market Ahead Of Football World Cup

16th May 2014 10:22

LONDON (Alliance News) - Online domestic appliances retailer AO World PLC Friday said it has launched new televison products and audio-video accessories on its website, ahead of the upcoming football World Cup, in hope of customers upgrading their TV packages for larger screens in high-definition quality to watch the football on.

AO, which started out selling domestic appliances, so-called "white good" - including washing machines, dishwashers and refrigerators - said it has now also moved into the TV market, offering a range of TV products and AV accessories.

"For the past 14 years we have been championing a revolution in customer service for white goods and today we are applying that approach to the retailing of TV and AV products," said Chief Executive and Founder John Roberts in a statement.

AO said its website now offers products from the top four television manufacturers - Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic - which make up a majority of the total volume market, as well as other brands and a range of accessories.

"The addition of the TV and AV accessories proposition comes prior to the 2014 World Cup Football when consumers are expected to be upgrading their TV packages to provide larger screens and higher-definition picture quality for watching a summer of football on," the company said.

The company said that TV video reviews can be found on its website, explaining the product in detail and as well as key features and how to use them.

"The ao.com TV proposition is not only refreshing for the consumer but it's also game-changing," Roberts claimed.

"We believe current online offers are overcomplicated, too jargon heavy and populated with ranges that are hard to distinguish," Roberts added.

AO World shares were trading at 236.25 pence Friday morning, up 0.3%.
