(Alliance News) - Angus Energy PLC on Tuesday said its appeal against the decision by West Sussex County Council to refuse permission for an extended well test at its Balcombe oil site has been upheld.
Angus Energy is a London-based energy transition company with a portfolio of clean gas development assets, onshore geothermal projects, and legacy oil producing fields.
Angus Energy has a 25% interest in the Balcombe field discovery targeting the Kimmeridge limestones.
The Balcombe 2Z horizontal sidetrack was drilled in 2013 and permission for a flow test was granted in 2018. However, the company said planning permission expired prior to the completion of clean up operations leaving a quantity of left-over drilling fluids from the 2013 operation.
It therefore applied for new planning permission in 2020, in order to clean-up exercise and follow with an extended well test.
In March 2021, Angus Energy said the West Sussex County Council's Planning Committee rejected planning application for an extended well test at Balcombe oil field.
In August of that year, the company said that it had further talks with West Sussex County Council and planned to appeal the committee decision to reject its bid for a short well test.
On Tuesday, Angus Energy said it "is now capable of pursing this well test subject to satisfaction of planning conditions noted in the appeal decision as well as the determination of the variation to the environmental permit by the Environment Agency which we understand to be imminent."
Shares in Angus Energy were up 0.9% to 1.08 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
