13th Oct 2025 15:32

(Alliance News) - Ampeak Energy Ltd said on Monday that it received Newport City Council's formal planning decision notice for the company's Afon Wysg 2 battery project.

The notice grants, with conditions, planning permission to Edinburgh, Scotland-based Ampeak Energy and its joint venture partner Econergy International Ltd for AW2.

The project is designed for a duration of up to five hours, bringing the project's total potential capacity to 1,250 megawatt-hours.

AW2 will be the third battery storage project to be delivered at Ampeak Energy's Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park, one of the leading battery storage sites in the UK.

Ampeak Energy and Econergy said that AW2's financial close is due in 2027.

Shares in Ampeak Energy rose 17% to 2.75 pence in London on Monday afternoon.
