Allied Minds Notes New US Spectrum Opportunity For Federated Wireless

12th Aug 2020 10:25

(Alliance News) - Allied Minds PLC on Wednesday noted an announcement from the US government that an additional 100 megahertz of key mid-band spectrum will be available for use in 5G deployment.

This is important news for Federated Wireless, an Allied Minds portfolio company and "a key player in developing shared spectrum capabilities," the company said. This has a range of uses including in fixed wireless and connectivity-as-a-service, which could "grow with increased spectrum opportunity".

The announcement of new spectrum availability was made by the White House and Department of Defense and is for 100 megahertz in the 3.45 to 3.55 gigahertz band. It will be made available for use in commercial 5G though a spectrum sharing framework.

Allied Minds said: "Federated Wireless, as a leader in enabling and optimising allocation of shared spectrum, is uniquely positioned to support this incremental band with algorithms, standard product development, and improved sensor capabilities. It will seek to play a critical role in enabling access to this newly available spectrum."

Joe Pignato, chief executive of Allied Minds, said: "This notable development provides more potential opportunities for Federated Wireless and follows a number of equally stand out partner agreements signed this year. 2020 is proving to be a breakthrough year for the business."

Shares in Allied Minds were down 0.1% at 43.19 pence in London on Wednesday morning.
