(Alliance News) - Allied Minds PLC on Thursday said its portfolio company Federated Wireless has partnered with Cisco Systems Inc to bring 5G technologies to rural and poorly-connected communities.
The US-based intellectual property commercialisation company said Federated Wireless will work with Cisco to develop a "first-of-its kind" deployment toolkit for next generation networks using 5G technologies in the UK.
In February, Allied Minds said Federated Wireless partnered with Cisco and the University of Strathclyde in 5G New Thinking, an initiative focused on developing the tools, processes and business models to allow rural and poorly-connected communities to establish next generation and 5G connectivity for local benefit.
The project will be run in partnership with the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and with community and civic partners in the Orkney Islands, Borderlands and Northern Ireland.
Shares in Allied Minds closed 0.1% higher at 44.05 pence each on Thursday in London. Cisco shares were trading 11% lower at USD42.63 in New York.
