LONDON (Alliance News) - Allied Minds PLC on Tuesday said it has formed BridgeSat Inc, which will build an optical connectivity system to improve the wireless transfer of data from satellites.
BridgeSat co-invented the technology with the US federally-funded Aerospace Corp as part of a commercialisation collaboration.
"Our research with The Aerospace Corp has allowed us to explore new, more effective options for LEO data transmission," said Allied Minds Vice-President John Serafini.
"At BridgeSat, we believe we've solved challenges including size, weight, cost and power bottlenecks that had traditionally hampered optical-based data downlink, as the technology ultimately offers substantial benefits over traditional RF downlink," Serafini added.
Allied Minds shares were up 8.0% to 610.00 pence on Tuesday morning, one of the best performers in the FTSE 250.
