Alba Mineral To Start First Drilling Campaign At Welsh Gold Project

14th Nov 2019 14:25

(Alliance News) - Alba Mineral Resources PLC on Thursday said it has mobilised equipment to commence drilling at the Clogau gold mine in north Wales.

The mineral exploration company said the first drilling campaign will focus on the Llechfraith mine area, one of the high-priority gold targets, where mining last occurred in the 1980s and where three potential gold shoots and areas of visible gold were reported.

At present, London-based Alba Mineral is planning to drill three to four diamond drill holes, targeting extensions to the reported Llechfraith ore shoots. The primary objective of the drilling is to collect geological and structural data to improve the understanding of the target area.

"Given the nature of the geological setting at Clogau, where gold has previously been found within narrow quartz veins at the contact with greenstones, combined with the modest amount of drilling that is planned to test the structure at Llechfraith, it is not expected that the drilling will necessarily intersect gold mineralisation," Alba Mineral said.

The drilling programme is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Alba Mineral shares were up 3.4% at 0.18 pence each in London on Thursday afternoon.
