(Alliance News) - Airtel Africa PLC on Monday said it has inked a partnership with Ecobank Group to allow Airtel Money customers to improve their access to mobile financial services.
The telecommunications services provider, which operates in 14 countries across Africa, said the deal will enable Airtel Money customers, through Ecobank's "digital financial services ecosystem", to make online deposits and withdrawals, carry out domestic and international money transfers, make in-store payments, and access loans and savings products.
Additionally, Ecobank will be able to sponsor Airtel Money to issue both virtual and physical debit and pre-paid cards to Airtel Money customers.
"This partnership is a further demonstration of Airtel Africa's commitment to provide affordable, simple and innovative solutions for our consumers across Africa. We will continue to offer locally relevant M-Commerce solutions with partners like Ecobank in order to enhance the daily lives of our customers," said Airtel Africa Chief Executive Raghunath Mandava.
Shares in Airtel Africa were down 2.5% at 57.00 pence in London on Monday.
