African Potash Hires Lord Peter Hain As Non-Executive Director

28th Oct 2015 09:40

LONDON (Alliance News) - African Potash Ltd continued its push to build up its board on Wednesday as it appointed Lord Peter Hain as a non-executive director, effective from December 1.

Hain, who is due to become a member of the House of Lords in November, was a cabinet minister in the UK for seven years and government minister for five, including working as Foreign Minister, Europe Minister and Energy Minister. He served under former prime minister Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

It is the latest in a series of notable appointments to African Potash's board, following on from the announcement on Monday that Mark Simmonds would become a non-executive director. Simmonds is the former MP for Boston and Skegness in Lincolnshire and worked as the Foreign and Commonwealth Minister for Africa under the coalition government.

Those two appointments came after the company last week hired Elias Pungong, senior partner and oil and gas leader at Big Four accountancy Ernst & Young, and Declan O'Brien, the chief executive of Barak Fund Management, an African commodity-focused investment fund.

Shares in African Potash were up 2.1% to 2.63 pence on Wednesday.
