LONDON (Alliance News) - African Potash PLC Monday said it has appointed Italian company RCT Srl, to undertake a maiden 1,000 metre diamond drill programme at its Lac Dinga Potash Exploration Project in the Republic of Congo
Milan-based RCT will perform soil investigations and field facilities on-shore and off-shore.
The objective for the maiden drilling programme, due to start next month, is to test the interpreted prospective salt sequence for the development of high-grade sylvinte horizons within the basin-wide carnallite layer. The initial programme will include two approximately 400 metres to 500 metres deep vertical drill holes.
It is expected that the holes will intersect the evaporite horizon between 300 metres and 350 metres below surface, African Potash said. The drill holes are planned to be drilled as open rotary holes through the cover sequence consisting of mainly poorly consolidated sandstones, limestone and dolomites, and to be cased to the top of the salt and then PQ size core drilling into the evaporite formation.
PQ refers to the pinnacle drilling size.
Drilling expected to be completed by September 2014.
African Potash said RCT is also currently drilling nearby for Italian oil and gas company Eni SpA, enabling it to benefit from synergies and use of shared facilities.
African Potash shares were quoted up 12% at 3.92 pence Monday morning.
