AFC Energy To Assess Hydrogen Projects For UK 'Northern Powerhouse'

30th Nov 2016 10:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fuel-cell power firm AFC Energy PLC on Wednesday said it has signed a deal with Peel Environmental Ltd to assess the potential for fuel cell projects at Peel's Protos industrial park in the north west of England.

Protos is located between Manchester, Liverpool and Chester and will provide 250 hectares of industrial development space for the region. It will house a cluster of energy-intensive businesses, AFC said.

AFC will now review the possibility of using a range of hydrogen sources and offtake agreements with companies to be located at the park. The feasibility study will be conducted over the next few months and completed in early 2017.

"Protos will provide the ideal opportunity for a scaled and commercial hydrogen fuel-cell facility that will play an important part in the long-term and sustainable powering of the UK's Northern Powerhouse," said Adam Bond, AFC's chief executive.

AFC shares were up 4.0% at 21.18 pence on Wednesday.
