(Alliance News) - Hydrogen power firm AFC Energy PLC on Thursday reported "excellent" test results from its main product, the HydroX-Cell alkaline fuel cell.
Cranleigh, Surrey-based AFC said the cell achieved "excellent" high current density on a single cell operation, akin to that achieved by proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
This, it continued, gives HydroX-Cell the potential to complete with these technologies, in areas such as trains, marine power, and defence.
Chief Executive Adam Bond commented: "We are continuing to see a growing interest in a decarbonisation of the mobility and stationary power sectors through high power density generation sources. Delivery of a high performing alkaline membrane-based fuel cell has been described by many leaders in the field as the 'Holy Grail' of fuel cell technologies and we are very pleased to be at the forefront of this emerging disruptive technology.
"We do however remain focussed on short term commercialisation of our HydroX-Cell fuel cell system and welcome the progress made by our technology development team towards a complimentary product supporting a new and growing segment of the hydrogen economy."
Shares were 6.5% higher on Thursday at a price of 6.50 pence each in London.
