LONDON (Alliance News) - Advanced Oncotherapy PLC Thursday said it has signed a five-year strategic supply deal with Toshiba Electron Tubes & Devices Co Ltd in Japan, part of Toshiba Corp, for the firm's LIGHT proton therapy machine.
Under the deal, Toshiba will provide the Klystron wave-based particle accelerator component for Advanced Oncotherapy's LIGHT machine, allowing protons to be accelerated at high speed before energy is released into a patient's body, causing damage and killing cancer cells.
"This collaboration will also give further confidence to patients, customers and shareholders that Advanced Oncotherapy is committed to choose the right path and to deliver a new system that requires neither the massive infrastructure, shielding nor extensive capital outlay of older and current forms of proton accelerators," said Advanced Oncotherapy Chief Executive Sanjeev Pandya.
Advanced Oncotherapy shares were up 1.8% to 3.72 pence on Thursday.
