Advanced Oncotherapy Signs Lease For Testing And Assembly Site

8th May 2018 13:16

LONDON (Alliance News) - Proton therapy systems developer Advanced Oncotherapy PLC said on Tuesday it has signed a lease with the UK government Science & Technology Facilities Council to launch a UK testing and assembly site for its new LIGHT proton accelerator.

The site is at the STFC Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire, and building work is set to begin to prepare the site for the LIGHT system components from June onwards. The site will then be used to put together the first LIGHT system capable of accelerating protons to the full 230 mega electronvolts needed to proton therapy treatment of deep seated tumours.

The site will also be used for the verification and validation of the LIGHT system ahead of its submission for regulatory approval, before being relocated to its commercial site in Harley Street. First patient treatment is targeted for the second half of 2020.

"Our agreement with the Science & Technology Facilities Council is an important step towards the construction of our first fully operational LIGHT system, to be constructed within the UK's accelerator research and innovation hub. Having a facility with established infrastructure, a certified site and a huge wealth of shared knowledge in the area of accelerators allows us to quickly move forward the construction of the first commercial LIGHT system in a cost-effective way," said Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Serandour.

Shares in Advanced Oncotherapy were up 1.9% at 53.00 pence on Tuesday.
