LONDON (Alliance News) - Advanced Oncotherapy PLC said Monday it has contracted Netherlands-based ICT Automatisering NV to develop software systems to manage patient workflow for its LIGHT accelerator.
The company's LIGHT radiotherapy system is based around technology Advanced Oncotherapy acquired in 2013 from ADAM SA, a spin-off company from the European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, in Geneva. The technology produces a proton beam that can be used to treat cancer.
It is aiming to integrate the accelerator within a fully-operational treatment facility, which will require the integration of software and hardware.
"After a review of the specialist companies working in this area, we have chosen ICT because of their commercial expertise and their close working relationship with the authorities who review and regulate the use of radiation therapies," Chief Executive Sanjeev Pandya said in a statement.
Advanced Oncotherapy said that the contract was a significant step toward reaching its goal of installing its first LIGHT system at the beginning of 2016.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
Shares in Advanced Oncotherapy were trading up 6.2% at 3.00 pence Monday morning.
