(Alliance News) - Active Energy Group PLC shares took a knock early Thursday after the company said it received a notice of intent to sue by the Southern Environmental Law Center in the US.
Shares were down 3.3% at 0.17 pence each on Thursday morning in London.
The Virginia-based environmental non-profit organization alleged that Active Energy is discharging wastewater without the required permits from its Lumberton property in North Carolina.
The London-based biomass-focused renewable energy business denied the charges, noting it is not currently operating at Lumberton. Active Energy added that it has not "discharged any wastewater other than what is required under its permits and required by the historic statutory remediation obligations associated with the property".
Active Energy declared that it would take "robust" legal action in response and defence against Southern Environmental Law Center.
It said it continues "to review all its options at Lumberton".
The legal letter follows a claim that the non-profit had already made in May about the same matter. Active Energy "strongly" refuted the allegations back then and stated that "the facts conclusively show that the only wastewater discharge activities which Active Energy Group is involved with have been fully authorized".
