Active Energy Moves Forward On Gaining Approval For Lumberton Site

7th Feb 2020 11:45

(Alliance News) - Active Energy Group PLC on Friday report progress in gaining a construction and air permit for its Lumberton CoalSwitch site in North Carolina.

The biomass-based renewable energy firm said the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, specifically the Department of Air Quality has completed the internal review regarding the permit.

Now the department has requested that a public information meeting be hold before the permit can be issued. The meeting is expected to be convened within March.

Active Energy said it expects to start construction of the plant as soon as the permit is granted, should no issues arise over the permit.

The company itself said it is continuing to undertake engineering analysis for the plant, as well as secure offtake agreements, both in the US and beyond.

"This is the first occasion where the CoalSwitch production process has been analysed by relevant environmental authorities. I am pleased with the initial conclusions of the Department of Air Quality in North Carolina. AEG welcomes the opportunity to present its plans for the Lumberton Site at a public meeting to demonstrate not only the environmental advantages AEG's black pellets have against existing white pellet production, but also the sustainable production processes that AEG intends to introduce at Lumberton," said Chief Executive Officer Michael Rowan.

Shares in Active Energy were up 7.8% at 0.55 pence on Friday in London.
