LONDON (Alliance News) - Acta SpA Tuesday said it has formed a product development partnership with Denmark's Dantherm Power A/S, a subsidiary of Ballard Power Systems Inc, to develop a self-recharging fuel-cell backup power system.
Acta said the partnership aims to address the significant opportunities for off-grid backup power in cold and remote geographic regions where traditional power sources suffer from severe drawbacks.
The hydrogen energy company said it will initially support Danthern to integrate Acta's EL 1000 electrolyser with Dantherm's fuel-cell backup power system. Once integrated, the combined device will be deployed on an island location close to the Arctic Circle, where it will be powered by a wind turbine.
Shipment of the order is scheduled for September 2014.
Acta hopes the project will demonstrate the suitability of its electrolyser products for renewable energy storage application in challenging cold environments. Acta said it is in discussions with Dantherm regarding a number of suitable opportunities across the Nordic region.
Acta shares were quoted up 2.9% at 4.50 pence Tuesday morning.
