(Alliance News) - 21st Century Technology PLC said on Monday that it has been awarded transport development contracts with West Midlands Combined Authority, a local government association, worth a total of GBP800,000.
The technology provider to the transport business said it will carry out works to improve passenger information displays by installing multi-colour LED screens, the first of its kind in UK transport, it said, around Birmingham city centre by the end of 2019. This is worth GBP300,000.
Commencing in 2020, 21st Century will install information displays and public Wi-Fi on the new Sprint Bus Rapid Transit corridor in a development worth GBP500,000.
Sprint is a transport development project managed by Transport for West Midlands and will eventually be made up of seven bus routes.
Chief Executive Russ Singleton said: "We are absolutely delighted to be working so closely with Transport for West Midlands and West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver pioneering projects as Birmingham prepares itself for the world's focus during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
"The projects awarded to us are built around technologies developed by 21st Century and give the authority the option to deploy a number of our new and innovative systems that could help revolutionise accessibility and promote the Sprint services, encouraging the use of passenger transport throughout the West Midlands region".
Shares in 21st Century Technology were untraded at 3.15 pence each in London on Monday afternoon.
