21st Century Tech Wins GBP0.4M CCTV Contract For Freight Trains

16th Sep 2013 08:47

LONDON (Alliance News) - 21st Century Technology PLC said Monday it had been been awarded a GBP0.4 million contract by GB Railfreight to install CCTV cameras on trains.

The company, which supplies monitoring systems to public transport companies, will fit forward-facing CCTV cameras into the drivers' cabs of 50 of GB Railfreight's Class 66 trans.

21st Century said that it expected to deliver the majority of the contract this year, with the remainder in the first quarter of 2014.

The company already supplies CCTV to a number of public transport businesses, including Arriva and FirstGroup in the UK, and is looking to pick up further business in the rail sector.

"We are particularly pleased to have been awarded this business on the back of our successful contract to install forward facing CCTV across the CrossCountry franchise last year. Forward facing CCTV is proving to be an invaluable tool in investigating signalling issues, level crossing, on-track and track side incidents including theft, vandalism and graffiti. Having established a good working relationship with Network Rail, as well as several train operating companies, we are hopeful that we can win further new business in the rail sector which complements our existing activities in the on-bus CCTV market," said 21st Century's chief executive, Wilson Jennings.

Shares in the company were trading up 0.25 pence, or 4.0%, Monday morning, at 6.50p.
