Pfizer Names Anthony Principi VP, Government Relations WASHINGTON, March 8 -- Anthony J. Principi will join Pfizer March 15 as vice president of Government Relations in the company's Washington, D.C. office, Pfizer announced today. Principi brings a broad range of both government and private sector experience to Pfizer. He most recently served as secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he directed the federal government's second largest department responsible for providing benefits programs to America's veterans and their families. Principi was appointed secretary of Veterans Affairs by President George W. Bush in December 2000, and confirmed by the Senate in January, 2001. He previously had served under President George H. W. Bush as deputy secretary of Veterans Affairs -- the department's second-highest executive position -- and as acting secretary of Veterans Affairs. Principi later became chief minority counsel and staff director of the Senate Committee on Armed Services. During his 10 years in the private sector, Principi was employed as president of QTC Medical Services, Inc., a group of professional service companies providing independent medical examinations and administration, and as senior vice president at Lockheed Martin IMS. He also was a partner in the San Diego law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton and Scripps. Principi is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he majored in engineering, and Seton Hall University Law School. He succeeds Kenneth Bowler as the leader of the Pfizer's Washington office. Bowler previously announced his retirement after 16 years in that position.
