Update of Progress
at the Rio Tinto Copper Project
EMED Mining, the Europe-based minerals development and exploration company, is pleased to report progress at its Rio Tinto Copper Project in Spain (the "Project").
The Ministry of Environment and Land Planning ('Environment') of the Government of Andalusia has issued a "compatibility report" in relation to the reopening of the Rio Tinto mine in the province of Huelva stating that there are no inconsistencies in any environmental aspects of the Project.
The compatibility report is an internal report between the departments of Environment and the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Jobs, by which Environment has provided the competent body - the Department of Industry, Energy and Mines, with confirmation that there are no inconsistencies.
This was announced on Thursday 16 January 2014 by the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Junta de Andalucía, María José Asensio, in a press conference in Seville along with the Minister of Economy, Innovation, Science and Jobs, José Sánchez Maldonado.
Rod Halliday, Interim Managing Director and CEO of EMED Mining commented:
"The Company has been assured that everyone is working intensively on the Environmental Dictamen and it will be issued as soon as possible. The fact that this statement has been made with the agreement of both departments is an extremely significant step as they are both publically acknowledging that the Project is workable from an environmental perspective."
