Earthquake Assistance: Pfizer to Provide $1 Million to Relief Organization and up to $5 Million Worth of Medicines NEW YORK, Oct. 13 -- The colleagues of Pfizer express their deepest sympathy for the victims of the earthquake that struck Pakistan and India. Pfizer today said it is mobilizing company resources in the relief effort. Key initiatives include: -- Pfizer will donate $1 million to international relief organizations operating in the region. These will include UNICEF, the American Red Cross/ Pakistan Red Crescent and Indian Red Cross Societies, and Save the Children. -- An initial donation of up to $5 million worth of medicines and healthcare products to relief organizations. -- The Pfizer Foundation Matching Gifts Program will match U.S. employee contributions to non-profit organizations assisting in the relief effort. In addition, Pfizer is working with experts at Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania to provide local health care providers with training to diagnose and treat post-traumatic stress disorder. This approach is based on a similar program used in Thailand after the tsunami. "The earthquake has caused an enormous human tragedy and Pfizer is working with relief organizations to do everything possible to address the huge health needs posed by this crisis," said Hank McKinnell, chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer.
