UMC Energy PLC
("UMC Energy" or the "Company")
Director appointment
UMC Energy is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Christopher Hart as Technical Director of the Company, with immediate effect. This appointment to the Board follows the provision by Mr Hart of technical and commercial advisory services to the Company in relation to its upstream petroleum activities in Papua New Guinea since September 2011.
Mr Hart's involvement in the upstream oil and gas industry began in the late 1980s and, during the past 24 years, he has served as both director and executive director for a number of listed companies, including Bass Strait Group NL, Timor Sea Petroleum NL (ASX: TSP), Octanex NL (ASX: OCT) and MEO Australia Ltd (ASX: MEO). In addition, Mr. Hart has acted in a consultancy capacity to various oil and gas companies, including Cue Energy, Boral Energy Ltd (now Origin Energy Australia) and Mineralogy.
In 1994, Mr Hart co-founded Timor Sea Petroleum (now MEO Australia Limited), the original tenement holder of the Evans Shoal gasfield. As Managing Director, Mr Hart was responsible for the management of statutory permit obligations in the company's offshore exploration tenements in the Timor Sea and Carnarvon Basin, capital raising (raising ~$150M for MEO's drilling activities in late 2007), fiscal reporting, seismic acquisition programs, drilling activities (resulting in two gas discoveries now under appraisal), joint venture and commercial negotiations relating to all of MEO's interests.
In his role as Managing Director of MEO, Mr Hart was principally involved in formulating and developing strategies for the commercialisation of regional gasfields in the Timor Sea, specifically relating to the development of offshore gas-to-liquid production concepts, including the Tassie Shoal Methanol project, the Timor Sea LNG Project, the onshore Timor Leste Fertilizer Project, and the design of related upstream production facilities.
Since Mr Hart's retirement from MEO in 2008, he has served as a director of E&P Investments Australia Pty Ltd which has an onshore oil & gas exploration tenement on the east coast of Tasmania (EL58-2008). From December 2010 to early 2012, he acted as Head or Oil and gas for Mineralogy's upstream interests, managing Mineralogy's exploration activities in the onshore Canning Basin and offshore PNG in the Bay of Papua, including coordination of the largest offshore 3D seismic acquisition and processing program undertaken in PNG. Mr Hart assisted Mineralogy in the development of prospectus and marketing data in relation to the proposed IPO and Hong Kong listing of ResourceHouse.
In late 2010, Mr. Hart identified an opportunity to acquire and develop the Darwin Biodiesel plant, constructed in 2008. He formed Territory Biofuels Limited (TBF) as the unlisted entity to own, manage and operate the biodiesel project, and has developed the technical and commercial terms that led to the acquisition in June 2012 of the largest biodiesel plant constructed in Australia it is expected that commercial production will commence during the second quarter of 2013.
The Directors of UMC are pleased to welcome Mr. Hart to the Board and believe that the experience and skills that he brings to the Company will be invaluable as the Group progresses the exploration and development of its existing upstream assets in Papua New Guinea and seeks to identify additional prospective leads in the region.
