New Mediclinic CEO To Take Up New Position June As Non-Execs Step Down

29th Mar 2018 09:29

LONDON (Alliance News) - Mediclinic International PLC said Thursday its chief executive designate, Ronnie van der Merwe, will begin his new role as CEO in June, whilst it also announced the departure of two non-executive directors.

Mediclinic, which is a constituent of London's FTSE 100 index as well as Johannesburg's Top 40, said van der Merwe will take up his role as CEO & chief clinical officer at the start of June.

Van der Merwe has been with Mediclinic since 1999, and has been a member of its executive committee since 2008. His appointment was announced in late November.

Outgoing CEO Danie Meintjes, whose departure was announced last July, will retire as CEO by the end of July, and will remain as an executive director until Mediclinic's annual general meeting on July 25.

Also leaving on that date will be Non-Executive Directors Nandi Mandela and Robert Leu.

Chairman Edwin Hertzog commented: "On behalf of my colleagues on the board, I would like to thank Nandi and Robert for their commitment and valued contributions to the board and the group - in Robert's case during 25 years, firstly as a director of Hirslanden AG, then Mediclinic International Ltd and since 2016, as a director of Mediclinic International.

"We are using the opportunity afforded by their retirement to further refresh the board."

Mediclinic's South African shares were up 1.7% in early Thursday trading at ZAR96.12 each, while London shares were up 1.5% at 580.40 pence each.
